Palm Sugar Thai Cuisine has opened at what was most recently the site of Pulse Cafe. A banner says that everything will be 20% off this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

(Before it was Pulse, it was Joey's Thai Cafe, and before that it was another Thai place, Benjapon's.)

*blink**blink* I guess it depends on what you call "near vicinity".. Pulse/Joeys/whatever it is now is only another 5 or 6 minute walk from Porter Square, which has two Thai restaurants, plus a Korean restaurant that has some Thai food...

Sugar and Spice
Rod Dee is also on Mass Ave, next to Christopher's
Kaya is also in that same block

I know of the places in Porter. Love Rod Dee, but they're not your typical Thai restaurant. I go there pretty often, but sometimes I'm just looking for the basics. I don't prefer Sugar and Rice (based on initial test w/ Pad See Yu), though I would still be inclined to visit and try other things.
So, not opposed to heading to Porter, but Davis is my preferred destination.

There's also Tamarind House (on Mass Ave) near Porter, Lemon Thai on Highland Ave near the armory, and Pho n' Rice (Viet/Thai but the menu leans more toward Thai dishes). So while I'm glad not yet another retail space is empty and there wasn't a Thai place in Davis Sq proper it wasn't like the area was lacking for places to get decent Thai. It's a bit hard for me to get excited about this, but I'm always willing to give a new place a shot.
