looking for non-chain local, independent jewelry store

That wedding ring I posted about a few weeks ago? Still missing.

It's physically nothing unique to replace and I expect that there's a catalog of mass-produced rings from which we can very easily identify what my ring was and get a matching one in the same size. When we bought it, we got both rings from Kitty Haas (who in addition to her cool artsy silver stuff used to special-order simple wedding bands in gold and/or platinum) and the rings thus came with a good feeling and a good conversation with Kitty and quite the opposite of the mall stores I really dislike the vibe of.

I know of local jewelery artists like Jade Moran and Daniel Spirer, but what about a basic jewelry store for NON-artsy jewelry? It seems silly to get a handcrafted ring that is copying the simplest-of-simple band that I had and my husband still has.

Hi. You might want to check out the Baak Gallery in Harvard Square at 35 Brattle Street. It's right by the Brattle exit from the T station. Half of the store is artsy jewelry but the other half is devoted to more traditional wedding-type jewelry. It's family-owned and the daughter is a great jewelry designer who does beautiful traditional and non-traditional pieces and she can do anything custom. They deal in 100% sustainable non-blood diamonds, which I think is really important to support. We got our very simple but beautiful engagement ring and bands from her and were really pleased with the workmanship and pricing.

That's great to know. There are no diamonds, gems, or design work invovled in what we need - one catalog page with ring shape A, B, C, and D and a ring sizing guide ought to do it and we can refer to the mate for which ring shape it was.
