And as someone who regularly bikes everywhere, I agree. I did bike through the mini-snowstorm a week ago Saturday to get to the farmers' market, but that never got a chance to turn into treacherous ice.

I thought it was drivers who hated it the most. I used to bike in the snow and slush (Somerville to Boston), and now I walk because of RSI in my wrists, and I still love the deep snows.

If I were physically disabled in any way relating to my legs or balance, I would probably have a very different opinion. Maybe.

What you might need, rather than different boots, are YakTrax to put over the boots.

Of course, the biggest walking problem is ice from uncared for runoff/refreeze. Wearing the YakTrak for sporadic patches isn't practical (said the guy who fell on one such patch and broke his arm just last week).

I did my part by buying a snowblower this year! (I suspect I was not the only one.) Nothing stops snow from falling like all those people having new snow blowers.

we also got a snow blower this year, and my husband bought our son his first pair of skis over the summer, so that is probably a contributing factor as well.
