Headed to Namaskar tonight in search of tasty Indian food - and found it quiet and dark, with nobody about and no sign to explain what was up. Did they just start closing on Tuesdays? Hopefully they are not gone for good...

I noticed they were also closed last night, and they are usually open on Mondays.

I can't say I'm surprised. It was always empty in there.

Good alternatives are Yak & Yeti in Ball Sq, and Guru in Teele.

Someone reviewed them on 1/30/12 on yelp with the statement they had been there 'today'. so i do not know that they are down for the count.

+1, I prefer them to Diva for both the food and the service. Unfortunately, I don't get to eat out as much as I used to, so haven't been patronizing (anyone) much these days. Although they are often empty, I do think they did a pretty decent take out business. We almost exclusively would get food to go.

Yeah - they are/were always their own worst enemy though when it comes to self-promotion. Many times I've been in and been shepherded to an out-of-the-way table, so the place appears empty from the street. Similarly I've come in, thought it empty, and then realized there are 3-4 tables full out of sight.

Definitely much better food than Diva.

Masala in Teele is excellent too - Methi Chicken is 10/10 delicious. Mind you, I had chicken pakora appetizers twice from them - once delicious, once dried up and nasty.

Yeah, it never made sense that they always tuck people away around the corner. Put people near the open front like Diva does? I always found that they were too attentive too. They would have 2 awkward dudes just hovering nearby the whole time filling my my water every time I took a sip. Good food though.

My wife and I were there last week, mid-week. The place was empty, as always.

Will be sad if they are gone, but even during the meal my wife and I were remarking how we wish that they had a beer and wine license—always like to enjoy Indian food with a Kingfisher.

Um, I've always been able to order a beer there. Has something changed?

We were there a few months back on the weekend and... were the only people there. :/

We really loved their food, I'll be really sorry to see them close shop, if that's what's going on.

We tend to order from Namaskar when we're in the mood for Indian, but they're pretty damn expensive for what they are. Last time we ordered there was a couple weeks ago and the food was inedible; one dish was so bland it was clearly missing several ingredients and the other was terribly oversalted. Part of me will miss them if they close, but I'm not going to be too broken up about it.

My gf and I dined in at Namaskar just about two weeks ago, and things were off. We'd had only positive experiences before, on about four previous occasions. The food tasted fine this time, but the experience was poor in other ways.

First, the normally friendly manager was aloof. Like, when our check came, the manager simply dropped the check on the table, not looking at us, and although I thanked him he walked off without a word. Seemed odd for a manager who is usually friendly and thanks us, especially on a slow night with only three or four other parties sitting and plenty of service staff to assist them. He didn't seem rushed, just not into it. No big deal I thought, everyone who works service has an off night sometimes. I put out my card to pay and when he came back to find my card, he asked if we could possibly pay with cash rather than card, or whether a card is all I had available. I said that I could pay cash, but I would have to walk to the ATM down the-- he interrupted with something like, "Ok, do that," glibly and walked off in the same beat. Gf and I exchanged a look. Then I remembered that other parties who finished before us had someone take a walk and come back, and I figured for the same reason. Wish he would have told us up front if he couldn't accept card. But no biggie, I walked down the block to the ATM and came back with cash, left it with the check on our table, and began our walk out. While leaving we noticed him ringing up another party with a card, and it was going through (so he had the capability, but preferred not to? That's different than if his machine was simply down. Now that I thought about it, he did seem to give me the option...) and he didn't acknowledge us as we left like he normally does. I commented to my gf that the whole vibe was weird that night, but oh well.

Second problem, my gf got nasty food poisoning that night. About four hours after getting home, she woke up with super bad stomach pains, suddenly and repeatedly got sick, and other symptoms that I will spare you. Less than an hour later, everything calmed down, and she wasn't sick the following morning. Sounds like food sickness to us.

So sadly, I don't think I'll be back to Namaskar. Sending customers out into the cold to withdraw cash rather than accept their card, AND your kitchen gets someone sick? That's not just an off night, those are symptoms of a bigger problem. It's too bad. I have to think it's related that a couple weeks later, they are now closed unexpectedly.

I've loved Namaskar for a while, but I went for lunch buffet a couple of weeks ago and the food was totally off - very bland. Something's up, which is sad. Guess I'll just have to trek to India Palace in Union or Masala in Teele.
