Was it by chance Emperor Norton's Stationary Marching Band (http://www.ensmb.com)? Whenever someone mentions "Davis Square" and "brass band" in the same sentence, that's who I think of.
No, we (Emperor Norton's) weren't busking on the 17th.
[shameless plug] If you want to see us perform though, come to Bohemian Bacchanalia (http://www.cluboberon.com/events/bohemian-bacchanalia-0) at Oberon next week! [/shameless]
Due to the featured reed and string instruments, ENSMB rarely described as a "brass band", which suggests to me it might have been the Second-Line Social Aid and Pleasure Society, Somerville's other Honk! band and more conventionally a "brass band".
I totally saw them, they were awesome, and were announcing themselves after every song (It was nice enough out that I stayed to listen to two or three).
Definitely Second Line. They made me super happy, thanks guys!
For years I've seen Second Line occasionally show up in Davis Square or on the residential side streets near me. But never before in February! Such a wacky non-winter we're having.
