I've colored my hair black for years, and finally want to make the change...to my natural light brunette color. Where do I go for coloring that looks natural and is $150 or less to lighten and then change my hair color?

Bonus points for being in Camberville, but I'll go wherever to get this done properly.

I don't know details of their pricing for coloring, but Salon Cu in Ball Square has moderate prices for haircuts, so prices for coloring might be quite reasonable also. While I haven't had them color my hair, the results I've seen on others when I've been have been good.

one of their better colorists started her own salon, and a number of us followed.

Me too. I wouldn't go back to Cu.

But, believe it or not, I've been getting the best colorings and cuts of my life at SuperCuts in Central Square. For MUCH less that Cu.

That's a shame...I go there and I have never had a problem and I color my hair red. Did you mention it to one of the owners at the time? They are lovely and one of them does my hair. I can't imagine they wouldn't have wanted to make it right.

I've had nothing but good luck with Carlo there for hair-cutting, but he doesn't do perms/colorings, and the lady there who did my perm (once!) did such a disastrously bad job that I asked for and got a refund.

I've also had great luck with Carlo, and I think he did color back when I was getting my hair colored, too. (I only added color to my hair when it was very short, so it's been a while.)

I love Christine, who now owns her own place "Hair by Christine" on Somerville Ave. She does cut and color for me and I think she's great.

I go to Pyara in Burlington now, but I used to go to the Harvard location. I have had good color experiences with them at both locations.

you will need corrective coloring to strip the pigment from your hair and go lighter.

i would NOT go to supercuts or some place that doesnt look reputable for something like this.

i would go for a free consultation at salon cru or judy jetson and see what they say first.

I want to sing Christine's praises at Hair by Christine! I am a natural redhead who is going gray and she does an excellent job of matching my natural color. Even my mother thinks so!

I also recommend Christine at Hair by Christine! I actually haven't been to her new place, but I loved her at Salon CU. She always did a great job with my cut and color, and I was always pleasantly surprised by how affordable it was. Not sure of her new pricing, though.

I recommend Jadee (pronounced J.D.) at Plan B in Harvard Square. She colored and cut my hair for 4+ years. I loved her so much I had to move across the country to finally stop coloring my hair -- it became a codependent thing....
