Back in the 70s or 80s that building was hit on the corner from a car trying to turn down the side street, not a lot of damage but it would make for a much worse result for that driver today.
I don't think my brain's physics engine is powerful enough to figure out what would happen. Nose dive? Belly flop? Would the car land on its side? Tumble?
It's certainly too early to declare it a Filene's Hole situation - nobody's started something and then gone bankrupt. I suspect there's a slow process going on involving the property owner, their insurance company, whatever insurance the individual businesses had, and any potential tenants of a new building, and that's all before it even goes before the city for permits.
