Something is going on in North Cambridge on Mass Ave that's seriously affecting traffic right now. There's 3 cop cars at the intersection with Dover St (which comes right out of Davis Square). Traffic is awful on Rindge, to the point that there's a cop directing traffic at the non-light intersection of Rindge and Cedar. So take this as a warning if you're driving around there soon. (Also, if you find out what's going on please let me know)

I drove by there around 3pm (I was heading towards Porter) and was directed to make a U turn by Franks steak house. I couldn't see what was going on, but there were 3 police cars visible from where I was.

There's road construction down parts of Orchard, which has some cops directing things and slowing traffic down.

I'm not sure if that's what was happening. There was terrible gridlock and too much police activity for it to be construction traffic from Orchard. It seemed like Mass Ave was completely impassable in one section.

No, I just biked the length of Orchard. None of it is closed or under construction.

I was having lunch at Christopher's at ar0und 2/2:30 pm and saw about 6 motorcycle police and 2 police cars all racing up Mass Ave with sirens going. One regular ambulance and the large Cambridge Fire Department Ambulance also raced up, sirens going, and came back down Mass Ave about ten minutes later, both of them running flat out with sirens full blast.

I do not think it was construction.

The @CambridgePolice twitter describes it as an accident.

"TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Accident on Mass Ave outside Porter Sq has closed Mass Ave from Hollis St. to Day St. Please seek alternate routes & avoid the area."

They weren't letting cars turn off of Rindge onto Cedar either for some reason, when I went by around 4:30. They let me turn since I was on my bike, and I saw nothing wrong on the whole of Cedar Street. No idea what that was about.

There was an empty car parked in the middle of the street, flanked with cops, that looked a whole lot like it had two bullet holes in the window.

A car struck a pedestrian or cyclist on Mass Ave southbound, in front of St. John the Evangelist Church. That's the block between Hollis St. and Haskell St. The State Police collision team (http://www.mass.gov/eopss/crime-prev-personal-sfty/traffic-safety/ops/cars.html) was on the scene, and when they show up it usually means someone has been killed. My girlfriend passed the scene a few hours after they cleared it, and she said there was some gravel-like material on the road, in the area of the crash. It might have been that stuff they lay down to absorb blood, spilled motor oil, etc.

The car was sitting in the right-hand lane with damage to the front end and, I think, also the windshield. There were no other vehicles and I didn't see a bike.

The victim was gone by the time I walked by, but I overheard someone say that the victim was a woman or girl, and he happened on the scene while she was still lying in the road. The crash happened in front of an MBTA bus stop and he said there was a bus sitting at the bus stop for a while, so he thought perhaps the victim had exited the bus, crossed the street in front of it without checking for traffic, and been struck. But that's second-hand speculation, so who knows what happened.

I haven't seen any mention of it in the news media yet.

I just found something about it. A young woman was hit by a car but is expected to recover:

Hi folks, thanks for compassion and no "bad selfish" comments. The T bus could not proceed, a few of us riders got off heading to Alewife, I headed to Porter Sq on MA Av. It was a horrible site of the victim who was not moving and face down, the bus was 5 carlngths from the scene......I said a prayer, cried and continued walking..... She was hit in a crosswalk Fing fast zippy drivers.... And some jerks in cars were honking for traffic too move, they should have been %#&t for there ignerence!

Wish I could "erase" the picture stuck in my head.

Pray for this young woman please.
