My mother is in a physical rehabilitation place near Freshpond for a few weeks, she's doing well, but for a large part of the day, she's stuck in her room because she can't walk very far yet.

The room is perfectly fine, but REALLY REALLY boring. So, I want to put some posters up for her. (I've checked, she's allowed). However, I found out last night that all of my posters from college got ruined by getting wet at some point. (They weren't worth anything, but I have a problem throwing things out) So, I need to buy some random posters. Where can I get some nice, colorful posters for cheap?

Glad she's on the mend! One option is to buy sheets of printed paper from Paper Source--generally they are only a couple bucks each and include things like world maps/subway maps/prints of dozens of birds/colorful patterns/leaves/etc. I've actually bought sheets to mount on foam board and hang on my walls, and it works well. For temporary use, tape would be fine and you might be able to sell them later or use as funky wrapping paper (I'd probably take em off your hands for the right price)

That's a great idea! Much prettier than most posters, too.

Though if you really want posters, I think any college bookstore would do it. I bet the Harvard Coop has plenty.

Give your mom by best!

Rodney's in Central Square has posters that are relatively cheap. For not cheap but cheaper than you'd find elsewhere, they also do any image you want on a poster.

I don't know the relative cost, but calendars can have a bunch of stuff in them. My parents used to buy me JAL calendars, and I'd rip the art out and use that as posters.

Newbury Comics in The Garage in Harvard Square has great posters though I dunno their price ranges. p.s. avoid HS this Saturday, it's Mayfair and will be really really crowded.

But this page says Mayfair is on Sunday. Was this a last-minute change?

The Christmas Tree Shops in East Somerville has some cute, cheap posters.

Maybe check the dollar store if you are in the square? or goodwill? I have no idea if either of these places have posters, but if they do, i expect they would be cheap.

A lot of libraries have paintings you can "rent" for free and take them home for one to two weeks. I know the Arlington library has a large selection. This way you could pick and choose and change up the room at will for no money. My best for a quick recovery!

You might also ask the Arisians if they have any leftover movie posters in storage from the freebies tables...

The Arlington library has (or at least did the last time I was in there) art you can check out for a couple of months.

You might also try asking on the somerville arts council mailing list if any local artists are willing to loan/give you something.
