There's a new sign at Powderhouse park, where one enters from College Ave.

It looks just like other signage in the park and in parks around somerville, says the park is open sunrise to sunset and has some other info on it, and it looks old-but-freshly-painted to me. I keep doing a double take when I see it, and having a sense of deja vu - makes me wonder if it has been there for years and I have somehow not noticed it and it just got a paint job? but I think the concrete is fresh.

Anyone know if they just put it up, just moved it and repainted it, or dug it out of a storage spot at DPW somewhere, or if I'm imagining this all and have walked by it for the past dozen yaars without remembering?

One option might be to see if that location is visible in google street view, and see if the sign is there ...

the sign was not there and now it is, it went up middle of last week. I don't know if there had been a sign there somewhat longer ago that was removed and now replaced, or moved from somewhere else.

Is Somerville shortening the hours of the park?

Walking through a park at 9 pm and sitting on a bench for a few minutes can be fun, and I hope it doesn't become illegal.

This page says all Somerville parks are officially open from 8 am to 10 pm, which conflicts with the sign. (I don't know why 8 am; 6 am would make a lot more sense.)

I'm also not too happy about how nonresidents can no longer park before 8 am for any length of time on streets like College Ave, as of the 2010 changes.

Brandon Wilson (of the Somerville Historic Preservation Commission) told me yesterday that this is a new sign, made to match the look of older signs from the Massachusetts Tercentenary.
