Microwave has been taken.

But I saw the guy who pulled over and grabbed it. He took out the carousel, set it aside, and just left it there. Which seems pretty obnoxious to me, since it turned the situation into trash-on-the-curb. What's up with that? Why would someone want a microwave without the inside bits?

For the metal, maybe?

Yup that's my guess -- he was taking it for the scrap metal.

I would also imagine scrappers. We tried to sell our old but totally functional stove, no one wanted it (and we were asking peanuts, $25!)... put it out and listed it free, and a scrapper had taken it within 15 minutes. I guess they make pretty good money just driving around on trash night taking stuff... but it was a shame that a completely functional stove was wasted.

On the other hand, it wasn't wasted if they made money that they could use to support themselves and possibly their family!

Well yeah, I was talking about emcicle's post, not yours.

old stoves are horribly inefficient, so it's probably better that it was recycled :)

Did you put a note on it that says it works? That might have helped it get picked up by someone who actually needed it. I'd definitely be more willing to lug something home if I knew it worked. If you did put a note on it, well... ignore me. :)
