I've got an old computer case (busted power supply) that I don't really want to just chuck to the curb (even though I know Somerville will take it)- does anyone have any recommendations for recycling? Thanks!

Bestbuy does electronic recycling. They take up to 3 items per day per household: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Global-Promotions/Recycling-Electronics/pcmcat149900050025.c?id=pcmcat149900050025

Not sure if there is a program that is more local, but that is what we use.

Staples also does electronics recycling -- but I thought that the original poster had just a case (a piece of furniture, not electronics)?

When the OP specified busted power supply I assumed she or he actually meant the casing that holds a computer. If I misunderstood, please disregard!

If you put it on the curb the night before, chances are good it'll be gone before morning, if you want to try that and then pull it back in if it's still there. The trash-pickers here are ambitious and busy.

Yeah, though I think it'd be more accurate to call them scrap-pickers, as they only ever seem to take stuff that has easily recyclable metal in it. A PC case is a steel box, so that should count. We've even had people come door to door down our street asking people if they had any scrap metal they'd like to get rid of on the spot.

Medford does scrap metal recycling for residents. (Drop off on James St, Medford).

Somerville does not appear to have a scrap metal collection

Cambridge's recycling center (147 Hampshire St) takes metal items, and is not restricted to residents (for that and most other items; composting/food scraps and electronic items are resident only).

Leave it outside not on trash day, and post it to http://boston.craigslist.org/zip . It will get taken very quickly.
