ie, where can i buy bar/bat mitzvah presents, besides harvard street near coolidge corner? i have a car so i'm not limited to t-accessible places, and because i apparently can't plan ahead for these kinds of things, and the b'nai mitzvot are this weekend, i don't have time to order anything online. (my procrastination, let me show you it. >.< )

(my cousin's twins - one boy, one girl - are being bar and bat mitzvahed on saturday, and because the boy wanted something "meaningful", i am now on the hunt for, say, shabbat candlesticks or appropriately-sized menorahs or the like.)

Coyote Impressions in Arlington (721 Mass Ave) often has Judaica in their inventory. Their website has photos of items http://www.coyoteimpressions.com/judaica.html but I don't know if that means that these things are currently in stock or not.

The Cambridge Artists Coop in Harvard often has nice, handmade judaica.

I think I've seen some things in Sign of the Dove (local artists in Porter Sq). Might wanna call to see if it's seasonal or all the time.

"meaningful" does not have to be Jewishly-meaningful - at 13, you can give something a bit "adult" and serious but don't really need to build up their collection of Judaica -- after all, they're a Jewish "adult" but they've still got quite a while before their parents' Shabbat candle sticks or menorah or Kiddush cup are not perfectly adequate for the task. Which would open up all sorts of more local stores - beautiful books on something they're interested in, items for a serious hobby that are a little more "grown-up" than they might have, even things like a fountain pen or some other nice writing/stationery related gift from Bob Slate. Those are the things I remember getting as a kid that made an impression on me.

Also, just out of curiousity, what's wrong with Harvard St other than that it is a pain to get to from Somerville? They really do have lovely things at Kolbo... Coyote impressions is not a bad place to poke into, but they have a pretty small and seasonal selection, I think.

Porter Square Books and Harvard Book Store both have books with Jewish themes, if that's the direction you decide to go.

Thanks for satisfying my curiosity! Coyote is where I got some supplies for Chanukah without going to Brookline, in any case.
