[identity profile] bobobb.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] davis_square
A couple of months ago I posted a query to the livejournal for a place to stay in the Davis Square area (see http://davis-square.livejournal.com/2847544.html). There were lots of good suggestions, but I ended up with two that were not suggested and thought I would just repost with their info for future reference....

The first place I stayed was the Bowers House, which is literally around the corner from the Goodwill. I hadn't heard of this place when I was living in Davis, so I was surprised it was there. It turned out to be really fantastic (clean, convenient, friendly folks without the usual BnB kitch) and I would definitely recommend it to people with friends/family coming to town. Info here: http://www.bowershousebnb.com/

The second place I stayed was the Bird House Suite, which was more of an apartment right across the street from the Garment District (yes, outside of Davis, but not so far that I don't think people wouldn't want visiting guests to stay there). The owners were extremely nice and the place had a more homey, BnB charm to it. Info here: http://www.bnbboston.com/locations/cambridge/bird-house-suite-furnished-apartments-cambridge.html

Hope this helps others in the future looking for local places to stay.

Thanks for this useful post! I had no idea that the Bowers House existed, even though I frequently walk and bike down that street.

Does anyone know how one would legally get permission to be able to open up a BnB in Somerville?

I recommend contacting a local B&B reservation service, which can guide you in the process. There are a number of very small B&Bs that operate quietly in the area by signing up with a service, which funnels guests to you in exchange for a percentage (well worth it). B&Bs with as few as one guest room are considered homestays rather than "inns."
