HONK! 2012: T-Shirts, Pics/Videos, Schedule, Bands, Oh My!

Hi HONK! fans!

The HONK! Organizing Committee has been working hard behind the scenes to plan HONK! 2012. This revolutionary street spectacle of never-before-seen proportions will converge for the seventh time in Davis Square, Somerville, MA, from Friday, October 5 through Monday, October 8, 2012 (Columbus Day Weekend).

As we get closer to the festival, we'd like to start to communicate more with you so you can look forward to our festival as much as we do and to let you know when we need your help to make this event happen. Our amazing community's participation is what make this whole thing possible.

-= Call for T-Shirt Designs =-

Over the years, the HONK! Festival has inspired some very beautiful art, and we have been deeply moved by this extension of our festival into other media. From Seth Tobocman's original graphic to many other images, films, drawings, tattoos, decals and other artistic works, HONK! spreads its wings not only in photos and recordings of the weekend, but in all these other wonderful expressions of the HONK! movement and spirit.

This year, we’d like to encourage that artistic impulse. This is a call for T-shirt designs for our upcoming 7th annual HONK! We’re looking for a graphic that speaks to the spirit of our festival, a family-friendly, two-color (or perhaps tri-color) design simple enough for a clear t-shirt imprint. Other than that, artists are limited only by their imagination.

We'll select our favorite design, and we'll also post and display other submissions before and during the festival, to share our community’s wonderful artisitic voices with all who attend and support our unique convergence.

Deadline for entries is August 15. Send your original design to art@honkfest.org.

We have a heck of a band lineup this year. Check out http://honkfest.org/bands-2012/ for the list of bands who have said they are coming. Note: this is a preliminary line up. Bands will be no doubt be added and removed from this list as we get closer to the festival so be sure to check honkfest.org for the latest updates. If you have any questions about band-related things, please feel free to write to bands@honkfest.org.

-= HONK! Needs your (Hi-Res) Videos and Pictures =-

We're often asked by the press for good hi-res photographs to print when they write about our festival. If you have any good hi-res photographs you wouldn't mind sharing for this purpose, we'd appreciate it if you could get in touch with us at contact@honkfest.org.

Also, we plan to run a Kickstarter campaign again later this summer. We could really use some good video of the festival for it. If you wouldn't mind sharing your footage, please drop us a note at contact@honkfest.org.

Hmm, that reminds me -- time to poke Young Fellaz Brass Band again to get a replacement CD. The one I bought from them was blank, and they still haven't sent me a new one...

Yay Honk!

I am OVERJOYED to see that Brass Liberation Orchestra plans to come again. Appendages crossed that it stays that way! I've really missed them in their absence.
