Date: 2012-07-29 05:29 pm (UTC)Goal: Create a knitted/crocheted 2.5” by 4” swatch to be sewn into an open ended tube (if you can slide the tube over your index finger you’ve got it!) The colorful tubes will cover the many fence tips that surround the Children’s play area of the Park: 361 Washington St., Somerville, 02143. Installation Saturday, August 25, 2012, 9-1 PM, as part of The Wrap Around Project: www.navegallery.org
Fence Tip Pattern for Knitting (please, crochet-ers, adapt for your skill)
Bright colored yarn (mix and match, use up ends!)
Size 7 needles
Medium weight yarn (I also mix two strands of light weight yarn)
Cast on 12 stitches
Create your own Pattern. Some that have been created:
All knitting
Knit a row, Pearl a row
Ribbing variations: Knit 2, Pearl 2 or Knit 3, Pearl 3, or Knit 6, Pearl 6
With 11 stitches I have done seed stitch (k1, p1, end with a knit)
Cast off so that the end-tail of the yarn is on the same side as the cast-on tail. Leave 12 inches of yarn and sew the 4” lengthwise. Turn inside out for your tube. Save a tail of yarn so that a Promo sign can be attached. If you want me to sew up the 2.5 by 4 inch swatch I can do that for you and I will attach sign.
Drop off at the NAVE Gallery. There is a mailbox on the street level to the right of the entrance of the Clarendon Hill Presbyterian Church. You can also email me to drop off at my home, or bring to the yarnstorming event on Saturday 8/25. These tubes will be replaced throughout the 10 week public art exhibit. Donations welcomed 11/1/12.
