Food Trucks?

What's the current status of the Food Truck question? Last I heard the Aldermaic Council was divided and going back for another discussion. Any update from that corner? How about any word from the Mayor's Office?

I think the situation is that they are currently not forbidden, but no food truck has ever tried to set up shop in a busy neighborhood like Davis Square and they probably won't while the word is out that the city might ban them or restrict them... There's also a truck near Tufts that is just over the Somerville side of the Medford/Somerville line...

isn't home depot technically in medford?

and, if not, since they are on private property it's not really the same thing as a mobile food vendor.

half a mile, give or take? I had to look it up, wasn't sure where the city limits were around there. I assumed they kept following 93 a bit further.

This item is still in the Legislative Matters Committee. At the last meeting, a pilot program was proposed by the Chamber of Commerce to take place in Union Square, although, some members of the Board of Aldermen would like other locations to be considered too.

It will get taken up again when the Committee reconvenes in late August or September. I'm not expecting anything concrete until the Fall.

Currently, a food truck can obtain a State license & set up shop as long as they obeye current City ordinances, traffic & parking laws. Hence, the trucks at Tufts, Trum & The Home Depot.

The ordinance being considered would regulate them on the City level and include fees, times of operation, etc.
