Found Orange and White Cat

A little outside of Davis, but not too far . . . an orange and white cat (a neutered male, I think) initially appeared a couple days ago. He wandered into my Cedar Street (Porter Square) apartment as some friends were leaving and went straight for my own cat's food. Given that we've already got a grumpy cat and a wounded foster kitten in the house, my boyfriend ushered him out quickly. Today he was back again, crying while perched on a fencepost in my backyard. I gave him some food, but he didn't seem that interested. He was very affectionate and kept trying to come inside the apartment with me. He doesn't have a collar or tags. I haven't seen him around the neighborhood before, so I'm not sure if he typically wanders around or if he's lost. Let me know if he looks familiar to you.

Oh, hey, I think that's my pal Orange Cat :) I see a cat that looks very similar to this on my street (Charnwood, right off Hancock close to Highland) very regularly, though I haven't seen him in a few days. Never has a collar or tags, and often gets himself into a routine of meeting us as we leave for work every morning. If it's the same cat, his fur is a little thin on top of his head. He's super friendly, though he hasn't attempted to come inside (we don't have cats.)

We have been running on the assumption that he lives in one of the houses near ours, mostly because those are the porches he spends the most time on.

Oops - just for another data point, my boyfriend thinks this isn't Orange Cat (who may have longer front socks)

PSA: You may not want to feed visiting cats, especially if they are wanderers or escapees with homes. It can encourage them to wander or escape even more -- or you may be violating some medically necessary diet that the owner is trying to impose.

All good points . . . which is why I would hope that cat owners would put collars/tags on their animals. That way it'd be much easier to figure out whether is a stray or has a home.

Absolutely. I don't understand this obsession with microchips -- no one has a reader, and who takes every cat to the vet to be scanned?

If I had a cat, I'd give it a breakaway collar (I wouldn't be walking it) and *maybe* a microchip if the collar came off. I don't think theft is a big concern for me, and that seems to be the motivation for chipping.

It looks like the charnwood cat to me. I am out of town so I can't ask around but I think he belongs to the family in the orange house on charnwood??? I hope orange cat is okay. He's a sweetheart.

Orange cat is fine, he attempted an invasion at our house yesterday morning :)

(And probably isn't this cat, face markings are different as well...)
