Just thought that people would want to know that the Q's Nuts store at Highland and Willow opened yesterday.  Their webpage doesn't seem to have a comprehensive list of hours yet (just a note on the home page that they were open from 12-8 on Friday), but they were open today, and had samples of all their flavors that were on sale (plus some new ones that they seemed to be trying out, like chocolate rosemary).  http://qsnuts.com/

Tonight I bought the Mexican Chocolate Pecans, the Key Lime Mango Almonds, and Herbed Salted Cashews with Basil, Cilantro, and ... um... I forget.

They were all really good. They had a few flavors in the store I didn't like, too, but they had samples of them all out, so it was easy to tell.

They told me that all their coatings and toppings are vegan and gluten-free (meaning only the granola is not).

I'm really excited that this isn't only a retail operation, but also a roasting and packaging facility for items that sell at farmer's markets and in cafes etc. To me this means a more stable business there than if they were just counting on walk-in nut sales, which I think would be hard to maintain there. (I care because I live right around the corner, and I think more jobs in Somerville is better for all of us).

I am so going to lean on them to make gluten-free granola, then!

We stopped by this afternoon. They don't have hours posted yet because they haven't figured out their hours yet -- they'll be judging the amount of interest and foot traffic over the next few days. They currently plan to be open every day except Monday, generally opening at noon; closing time is still an open question.

In addition to nuts they also carry an impressive variety of Christina's ice cream and sorbets. In case you don't know, Christina's is a really amazing ice cream maker in Inman Square. I'm not a big nut fan but I am really, really excited I can now get a kiddie cone of Christina's just down the street. :)
