leather bag repair

I have a leather bag with a grommet design on the strap: (Picture here).

One of the grommets popped out a couple of years ago and I never got around to getting it fixed. It seems to have a 3/8" diameter on the inside and 1/2" diameter from edge to edge. I brought it last week to Jimmy's Shoe Repair in Central but they told me that they didn't have anything that size.

It also seems like it could/should be something that I could fix myself, but the internet only wants to sell grommets to me in 100+ batches. That's an option, I guess, because if I lost one I probably will lose more.

That does, however, seem like a pretty drastic step if only because I am hopeless at all things DIY. Is there anywhere locally that might be able to fix this?

Tagging this 'shoe repair' in case earlier posts are helpful. Did you try Savas Shoe Repair in the plaza near Starbucks in Davis Square?

Thank you! I haven't yet — I sort of got the impression from Jimmy's that grommets of the size I need weren't really used for shoe repair. It is a bit larger than a typical eyelet and I can't see that there'd be much demand for it at a shoe repair shop.

Savas is on my list of places to go, but I remembered that people in this community know everything.

Try a local google search for leather coat repair places. They would use a wider variety of grommets than a shoe place would, I think.

I've bought that size grommet (along with the setting tools) at Harbor Freight in the past. You can mail order from them or go to the store in Medford. I wouldn't be surprised if Tags had them as well. Or how about Sew-Low Fabrics or Sewphisticated...
