I need a few 2" and 4" diameter poster tubes for a project.* Buying a whole case would be overkill, but that seems to be the only option online. Can anyone point me to a local joint that sells them by ones and twos? 2" seems to be a standard tube diameter, but I'm less confident of finding the big ones.

* Said project is constructing a life-size IG-88 for Empire Strikes Back Uncut.

I think you can get them at Staples.

Or you could try a UPS store. Or maybe even (!) a post office! :)

Staples, Fedex Office, UPS store, or maybe Post Office. Post Office likely to be most expensive. UPS store can also be a rip off.

Alternately to the above, if you can find a shop that does large-format printing, the centers of their rolls of paper are heavy-duty cardboard tubes, typically in one or the other of those sizes. Assuming they don't reuse them like crazy for other purposes, they probably could get you quite a few. (As far as I know, most of the time they just recycle them, so donating them to make an IG-88 would probably seem like a great idea.

My architecture office has lots of poster tubes that we just recycle. We have 2" and 3" (lots of 3", various sizes. PM me if you're interested.
