i hate to post another transportation question, but i figure the people living in the square have a better idea of buses over any realtors or mbta maps. this is the last one, i promise:

how might one get from the following places to harvard square:

-cedar street near broadway
-main street near broadway

i don't mind walking a bit to get to the best bus routes, but i'm keeping winter in mind.

thanks again and i hope it's not too obnoxious that i've posted this here.

While I don't actually know the answer off the top of my head, here's a quite-useful link for this sort of question...

http://trip.mbta.com/cgi-bin/itin_page_dhtml.pl

It's the mbta's Trip Planner page. If you give it a wide enough window of time, you can see a few possible routes.

Hope it helps!

From Cedar/Broadway, I'd prolly walk down to Powderhouse Circle and catch the 96 to Harvard.

Generally, the 89 from Broadway to Powderhouse circle, and then the 96 to harvard. (or 94/96 to Davis and T to harvard. A little faster, but not a lot)

If you don't mind a walk, though, its about 1-1 1/2 miles from Cedar to Porter Sq. And then the 77/96/T from there.

From cedar and broadway, a nice walk is to take cedar to the bike path and then the bike path to Davis Square.

From Main and Broadway, you might think about taking the 89/101 to Sullivan Square; from there, you could take the 86 to Harvard or the 91 to Central, or take the Orange Line. Also, I think about half of the weekday 89 trips these days terminate in Davis Square rather than Clarendon Hill (past Teele Square). But I'd think of that as much more combo-pass land than Cedar would be.

A strange alternate option from Cedar St. would be to take the 80 to Lechmere, then the 69 to Harvard. But walking from there to Davis or Porter is fairly reasonable.
