Easy things you can do to help our schools

Even if you don't have school age children, there are many things you can do to help the schools that take very little effort and no additional expense. These are the programs the Brown School participates in. (K-6 public school, at the intersection of Kidder & Willow). I am sure most of the other local schools also participate in these programs. Use this list to help the school of your choice. Please add anything I have missed!

Boxtops for Education - These are little coupons on General Mills products. The school gets 10 cents for each one.I'm pretty sure all schools collect them. Drop them off at the office, or give them to a school age child. (They will probably love this, as most schools have some sort of collection contest)

Labels for Education - the name for the expanded Campbell Soup labels. They are now on a variety of products. Turn them in to a school office or give them to a kid.

If you are online shopping go to www.boxtops4education.com and shop through their online shopping portal. Every store I can think of is there (Land's End, Target, etc) They will donate a percentage of your purchase to your designated school.

The Meadow Glen Mall in Medford has a contest in which the top school can win $5,000. Take your receipts from any store or restaurant to the customer service desk. They will stamp your receipts and return them to you.

If you shop at Stop & Shop, go to www.stopandshop.com/aplus and register your rewards card. You can designate a school that will receive money back when you shop.

Got Books/Recycle That drop-off The Got Books container on the corner of Kidder and Willow now participates in the "Recycle That" program. In addition to books, you can now drop off clothing, shoes, linens, belts, purses and more. They will take stained and ripped clothing. It gets shredded and made into other products.

Buy a Brown School Card. For $10, you can get discounts at many Davis & Ball Sq restaurants and shops. They are for sale at Davis Squared and Mr. Crepe, or you can buy one from a student.

As of Thursday the "Get Books" box at the Brown School was overflowing, do you know if it has been emptied yet?

I didn't see bags piled up yesterday, but I don't know if the bin was emptied or if the custodian took them inside.

If you have a Target debit card, you can designate a school that Target will donate a certain percentage of your purchases to (I think it's only 1% but it still helps.).

Healey School is on Target's list of designations and participates in the stop and shop program too, and I think it's on the Meadow Glen list but I've never seen it get promoted enough to get anywhere in the standings.
No cool discount card, though.

I'd like to add:
= Labels for Education can be found on Fruity Pebbles and Cocoa Pebbles. The label is on the bottom of the box; it'll say "1 point" and has a UPC code.
= Meadow Glen Mall has double points on Monday and Tuesday for the School Bucks program, and you must turn in your receipts within 7 days.
= There is also a points program at Stop & Shop but I don't have the info in front of me right now.
