a friend of mine was hit by a car while biking on willow street earlier today (~9:15AM). the driver did not stop. she said that several people helped her out (one of whom apparently got the license plate number!), but, after being scared out of her mind, she forgot to get their contact information. and witnesses are good when you're trying to nail some asshole for a hit-and-run. so if you happened to see this, or know someone who did, please contact me and i'll send the information on to her: androidqueen AT gmail DOT com. thanks!

I wish I had seen it. As a commuter cyclist, I.hate.those.people. So glad there were some friendly and helpful witnesses and your friend is OK.

It's possible that the person who got the number called the police. You or your friend may want to call them.

Trust me, if I saw it, I'd have helped. My brother was involved in a hit-and-run on his bike, and though it was rush hour on the busiest street in the city, no one seemed to have seen anything or stopped to help him. It cost him quite a bit in medical bills, too.

So yeah.
Hope she's ok, hope she finds this guy.

That's horrible. I'm glad she's alright. I hate the thought of people driving like that on streets I bike on all the time.

I agree. That's a common route for me too. I've seen some pretty dangerous driving in that area lately.
Glad she's okay. I seriously hope she manages to take the guy to court.

Indeed. Willow Ave (I'm assuming it was Ave and not St) is a bit narrow for a two-way street with parking on both sides -- only just wide enough, really -- making it hard for cars to get around cyclists. Heck, a friend of mine was hit in his car on Willow because the other guy wasn't far enough over to his side.

I'm sorry about your friend, M. I hope everything comes out.
