Anyone know of any water main issues in the area today?

Water was brown this morning, would seriously like to lknow how Somerville puts out a boil water notice . . .

Yeah, it could be dislodged rust . . .

There was tons-o-rust on Russell St. Yesterday, no idea if there is a connection.

Tons there today, too. I'd assumed it might be somehow connected to all that construction they're doing around there (houses, plus restaurants in the basement of the Citizen's Bank bldg); if they cut into a rather nasty main or something to get their water connection, that might muck things up for a bit.

Or, it could be something else entirely...

Probably means they're flushing the mains and hydrants. Usually the brown water is safe to drink, but not for laundry.

they were doing some sort of hydrant stuff over on laurel street near summer. a couple hydrants in the area had covers over them saying: hydrant out of order. i've never seen that before!

but yeah, i'm guessing a seasonal flushing of the hydrants is what the water's discoloration is all about.
