T closing Porter, Davis, Alewife stations on four weekends this fall
The MBTA will close the Red Line north of Harvard Square on four weekends in November and December in a continued effort to remove and replace corroded stretches along the track.

Buses will replace the trains along the stretch of the Red Line on the weekends of Nov. 17-18; Nov. 24-25, Dec. 1-2 and December 8-9, according to the MBTA.

At least it's not all of Christmas shopping season this time, just the beginning.... still, I agree, again!?

Again, why couldn't they do this in the summer when it doesn't suck so much to walk/wait for buses??

because they were fucking me over when I lived in Quincy, then, by closing the tracks there.

Somerville, I am really sorry that the MBTA repair goons are following me around.

Why do they keep picking winter weekends for this? At least it's a shorter stretch, but ugh, still.

I'm beginning to think what they should really announce are weekends when there are no detours on the red line at all. Those are the ones that are actually the exceptions.

If the project isn't finished, why did they install a huge commemorative plaque at Alewife for it last year?

I hope they have better signage this year. All Red Line stations need prominent signs at every entrance. (In an ideal MBTA, *every* station would have a whiteboard showing any service disruptions, but that's too much to hope for.)

And they need better signs at Harvard telling people which platform to use for inbound trains. Here's what I posted on another forum last year:

"Ashmont trains are using the upper (normally outbound) level, and Braintree trains are using the lower level. People who just need the next train have to figure out which platform has a train leaving first.

The signs don't make this clear, especially at the Church Street entrance."
