GotBooks doesn't take them, the library doesn't take them... I'm running out of ideas and google-fu.

I've got a bunch of magazines along the lines of Smithsonian, Entertainment Weekly and so on, going back at least ten years, in good condition. I can recycle them, sure, but perhaps there's some organization out there that would have a use for them?

Any ideas?

Art schools? Or just schools in general? I know a freshman art student who needed a stack of magazines for a design assignment recently, and I feel like basically everyone has to make a collage at some point in their academic career.

I'm good now. Thanks though!

Does this mean you don't want mine anymore?

Put a Free Stuff ad on craigslist, if there's no one here. When I did that (years ago and in NYC), the person who came said she was sending them to soldiers abroad.

This. That's what I'm going to do when I'm done culling my old issues of Saveur.

... Saveur? May I have some? I promise to make up the pile with old copies of Archaeology from the last few years.

Certainly! The culling is proving to be slow going...I keep getting sidetracked by re-reading the articles. :)

I've had both Goodwill and Boomerangs (in Central, I prefer them because I have heard that Goodwill has some questionable labor practices) take my old magazines, although I think one or both of them has a stated policy against them. I admit I don't know whether they were then sold or junked.

freecycle.org might connect you with someone who can use them.

I have taken magazines with me to the doctor and to ERs before; also I work in a school so I give some to the art department.

Hospitals! When I was going though chemo, I spent hours a week in waiting rooms or bored during procedures. My oncologist's office had a bunch of cancer-related publications and a few magazines that people donated - mostly Better Homes and Gardens in Portuguese and a few People magazines that I would fight the elderly old ladies for. :P

Older ones (particularly things like Entertainment Weekly) might be better for art projects at local public schools, but new within the last 6 months or so would be more than welcomed at local hospitals - especially hospitals that tend to serve lower income people.

I agree with trying hospitals. There's never anything to read, whether in the ER or in a ward.

I worked at the United South End Settlements (USES.org) in one of their youth art programs. It's a great charitable non-profit, doing wonderful work. We were always starved for good magazines to do collage projects with (and art supplies of any kind). The program I was with is no longer there and my contacts all got laid off or transfered, but you can call (617) 375-8108 to ask if any of their art programs want an in-kind donation of old magazines.

Hi,
I'd be interested in some old magazines. I do art therapy and use them a lot for collaging. Do you still have them?
I'd love some like the Smithsonian or any with lots of interesting pictures. Please let me know.
thanks
