Yesterday a few of my friends (not me, unfortunately) saw a big halo/inverted double rainbow thing in the Somerville sky, similar to this. It definitely happened, I heard accounts of it from friends who don't know each other. Did anyone else see it, and if so, did you manage to get pictures?

Rainbows around the sun or moon around interesting precipitation events are not uncommon. Sandy has produced some very bright/visible ones.

UHub posted about this, and while they're not from Somerville he lists photos that were taken: http://www.universalhub.com/2012/sundog-over-fenway

Yes, and several other friends saw it as well. It was amazing and beautiful, unlike anything I've ever seen before, or will probably ever see again.

The link you gave comes closest to any other photos I've seen of what it looked like overall. And it persisted for at least an hour - I didn't go home to get my good camera because I didn't think it would last that long.
Sadly, the pictures from my phone camera did a poor job of catching the central rainbow portion, and it would've taken a very wide angle lens and a very good view of the sky to get the whole thing in one shot - the larger rainbow seemed to go from horizon to horizon!

One friend was telling me last night that a friend of hers saw something similar years ago, the day before a massive storm dumped over a foot of water on Florida...

We also had some monster fog for all of 15-20 minutes which was wild as well!

I saw the two arches of rainbow going in opposite directions, but not the rest of it. I did get a couple of not-so-great cellphone pictures, basically like the ones posted by [livejournal.com profile] lizzielizzie but not as clear.

I saw it, it was really cool. Didn't get any pictures, though.

Edit: holy crap, those were big. Fixing the size!

Image - Sundog with perhelic circle and faint upper tangent arc.
Image - sun halo and arcs all over the place, including what looks to be a rare Parry arc.
