It's looking serious. Somerville Public Schools will be closed tomorrow (Monday). If Monday is your trash pickup day, please note that pickup starts at 5 a.m.: You should put out your trash this evening (Sunday).  Please visit the City's website for additional information and safety recommendations, www.somervillema.gov.

Hey Tom, are they going forward with the scheduled pickup for yard waste as well as trash at 5am?
I've got like 8 bags of branches out there after some weekend work...

You may want to set your alarm early to go retrieve said trash cans before they blow away after they lose ballast..(or float away as I've seen several times during high rain..)

As a resident, I am pleased with the prep done so far by the city, and y'all are doing a good job communicating it out to residents so far online. Thanks!

Hopefully this will be a huge overreaction and over-preparation[1] on our part and that NJ-based Somerville to the south will get more of the brunt of the storm than we will. Plus, I would guess that the epic storm surge (http://www.wunderground.com/blog/JeffMasters/article.html?entrynum=2278) isn't going to hit Somerville as hard as other more directly coastal communities.

However, I cannot help but read the twitter hashtag for S'ville-related tweets, "#SoSandy" as some kind of adjective phrase, possibly read in a Valley Girl accent. "OH MY GOD, THAT HURRICANE WAS SOOOO SANDY."

[1] really, though, it's hard to tell if you're overprepared, but man, there are all sorts of ways to find out you're underprepared

answered my own question:

"On Mon, Oct 29, trash, recycling and yard waste collection, as well as street cleaning, will proceed as scheduled in Cambridge. Please bring barrels indoor or secure them as soon as possible."

For the folks who work or study at Harvard, they've posted a message on the emergency page
http://www.harvard.edu/emergency

"Harvard University has suspended all but core operations for Monday, October 29. This means that classes and most other programs are cancelled and only employees whose roles are vital to core operations are expected to report for work."

Looks like everyone is heeding the Governor's plea to stay off the roads.

Hey Tom,

Any chance of another update from the City? Will trash pickup tomorrow go on as scheduled? Thanks!
