[personal profile] cos posting in [community profile] davis_square
Years ago - I don't remember how long, but possibly 10 or even more - someone was selling Davis Square T-shirts at ArtBeat that were very simply blue like the background of the Davis Sq sign, with just the road-shape in white on the front, and nothing else. No words or labels or outline or anything. I got one and it's one of my favorite T-shirts.

I wish I'd gotten 2 or 3, but I've never seen them since. Several years at ArtBeat I've seen a different vendor selling Davis Square T-shirts based on that sign, but they have outlines and text and say "Davis Square", etc. I've had an eBay saved search for many years but all it ever turns up are "Mystic River" movie shirts.

Anyone seen the shirts I'm describing or know where to get them or perhaps want to create them anew?

Edit: [livejournal.com profile] wallastreet linked to https://davis.spreadshirt.com/ which is not exactly the same thing but quite close, and I'm going to get some of those!

would D-Squared or Magpie possibly have these?

I know they used to have the "Mr. Davis" t-shirt at D-Squared. Not sure if they still have it, but that's the first place I'd check.

You could also ask Thalia Tringo- according to the Somerville News, she was selling them at Midnight Madness http://www.thesomervillenews.com/archives/32891

Perhaps. The "Mr. Davis" ones are the road sign turned into a face.

I know exactly what you mean, and I'd happily take one, too. As I've mentioned before, I really dislike DARBI's Mr. Davis (http://yourdavissquare.com/) logo and would like either your plain shirt, or one of the variations of the sign-with-street-names - any of the orientations would be fine.

I don't think it was a matter of you not being clear. Ron suggested maybe D-Squared, [livejournal.com profile] secretlyironic did not say it was there, but merely confirmed they have another shirt with the davis square intersection on it, in the form of Mr. Davis, presumably to support that as a possible place.

The "edit" I suggest is to take a picture of your shirt and put that into your post (behind an lj-cut).

I know D-Squared has had quite a few different shirts with the road shape on them. Some have the face, some I know have the names of the roads, but there might have also been plain ones. I don't remember. Worth checking, or at least calling!

The common term people were using for the road sign some years back was "bugsplat", if that helps your Google searching any.

doesn't someone on this community, maybe wallace_st, have it as their icon?

It should be quite easy to create it anew, but I don't have the gimp skills for it myself. Just take the image, turn the contrast all the way up and/or edit out the words, then send it to Zazzle.

The ones you are talking about (royal blue with a 1 color white Davis sign) I think were only sold by 1 itinerant vendor at ArtBeat years ago. You may want to ask the Arts Council. They probably have records of what vendors during what years were selling what, or they would at least remember who the guy was. And maybe have his contacts.

The Mr. Davis ones are the DARBI logo shirts. And the ones with the street names are usually the ones made by the Somerville Homeless Coalition and sold at Artbeat and a couple of shops in the Square.

Since you have one of these T-shirts, can you post a photo of it here? That would clear up some of the confusion you're seeing in these replies.

I know exactly the shirt you're talking about! Bought one a few (two or three) years ago at Magpie as a gift, but it was the wrong size and when we went to exchange it they had none left and I haven't seen them since. But maybe the owner of Magpie might recall where they got the shirts. Please post if you find one as you described, I still owe a properly sized one as a gift!

I don't know if it's the original, but have a look at http://davis.spreadshirt.com/ ; is that what you're describing?

I think that fails the criteria of "No words or labels or outline or anything"...

It's not like that graphic without words or other logoing can be copyrighted or trademarked. Make your own and put it up on spreadshirt or somewhere similar.
