The City of Somerville has scheduled another informational meeting on the Beacon Street reconstruction project, which includes a proposed cycle track. The meeting will take place next Monday, January 28 at 6 pm in the cafetorium of the Argenziano School, 290 Washington Street in Lincoln Park.

Hayes Morrison, the city's director of transportation and infrastructure, has sent out this agenda for the meeting:

To start the meeting, we are asking for a representative of each interest group – the residents, business owners, and cyclists – to prepare a brief presentation (8-10 minutes) outlining the interests and concerns of their group for the project and the neighborhood as a whole. The City will work with the selected presenters if they need any images or information.

This will be followed by an open Q&A so that attendees can better understand the various points of view.

From this discussion, we will transition into a brief presentation on the revised Beacon Street plans that were submitted recently to MassDOT. These plans reflect responses to what we have heard from the community to date.

After that, there will be breakout work sessions to identify the pros and cons of the evolving plan and to focus on potential areas for further improvement.

Project documents are online at http://www.SomervilleMA.gov/BeaconStreet . I believe the most recent plan is this 'Design Exception Report', last revised on December 10, 2012.

See the bicycle tag for previous posts on this subject.

Thanks for posting Ron - could you add a parking tag as well? Hoping this meeting is more constructive than the previous one. As an FYI Alderman Heuston is selecting the neighborhood resident representative and is supposed to meet with business owners to discuss a business rep. Seems somewhat backwards to gather public input this way *after* submitting revised plans to DOT, but who knows?

Who is presenting for the cyclists?

Why does the city assume that all cyclists share the same opinion? And that cyclists, residents, and business owners are distinct groups?

Why does the city list residents, business owners, and cyclists, but not include pedestrians as a distinct group?

The whole distinct groups thing makes no sense.

We're all individuals. (Except me.)
