Are there any "nice" Chinese restaurants in the area which may or may not include a buffet that people recommend? In other words, not just a place for takeout with three tiny tables, etc.

(LJ really needs a search feature that doesn't require downloading software from third party sites. I'm sure this has been asked and answered before.)

Chili Garden in Medford. No buffet, but the food is really good.

The 101, 96, and 94 will get you there (the latter 2 from Davis)

There's also Chaing Sho (or however they spell it) between Porter and Harvard, but I find there food to be more chinese=style american food than chinese food.

The best are in Chinatown, but for elegant Chinese, Changsho on Mass Ave. is nice.

And Chinese? Because there's Sugar and Spice (Thai) and Martsa (Tibetan) as well as Koreana (Korean) that are nice, too, but not Chinese. Also Bluefin (Japanese) in the Porter Exchange.

If going a few stops down on the T is alright, then Mary Chung's in Central Square is a little threadbare, but has really good food.

That's probably Wangs. Not exactly high on the ambiance scale and much beter for takeout, although I have eaten there several times.

Also, Sesame is Wang's newer sister restaurant, on Broadway between Teele and Rt 16. The menu is largely similar to Wang's, but they have additional vegetarian options as well as an entire Japanese/Sushi section. The ambiance is also much better, so it's a nicer place to go out to dinner.

If I'd known Sesame was the same folks I would've gone ages ago. Thanks!

East Asia on Broadway in Powder House Square has excellent food and reasonable prices. They do delicious Chinese and Thai. They are an in-between option if you put the take-out only places on one end and the white tablecloth place on the other.

Mary Chung's has great Chinese food, with a diner-like booth atmopshere. Beware - they are cash only.

For fancier atmosphere, I'd go to Royal East on Main Street in Cambridge, just down from Central Square, across from Bertucci's and Cucci Cucci.

I second the vote for Changsho. Even if it's not your choice tonight, try it sometime.

I'll also recommend Chang Sho. They only have buffet on weekdays at lunch, though. The food is tasty, though.

I always found East Asia (on Broadway at Powderhouse Circle) underwhelming, and I ate there plenty because I lived a few doors down. I do like Dragon Garden in Davis Square, just past Mike's and the passport photo place.
