My daughter and I are in the North Cambridge Family Opera's Spring production of:

ANTIPHONY
Music by Graham Preskett
Book and Libretto by John Kane

Two weekends, March 16th and 17th and 23rd and 24th, 8 shows total, fun for the whole family,
just the other side of Davis at the Peabody School in Cambridge. see http://www.familyopera.org for more info, or click behind the lj cut, or both.

Antiphony is an uplifting, inspirational, and funny show for the whole family, featuring some industrious ants, a scheming fly, and a fiddling grasshopper who all have a lot to learn about what makes life worth living.

Featuring entertaining lyrics set to singable music in a variety of styles, Antiphony is presented by an inter-generational cast in English with side titles (which helps people who can read to catch all the excellent funny rhymes even if a singer's diction isn't quite perfect :-) Antiphony is opera in that it's fully sung (with catchy tunes and 4 part harmony, even!), but it's very approachable to young kids and is not the sort of classical opera that people are expected to go to in ball gowns.

This production comprises two 30-minute acts (plus intermission) and will appeal to audiences of all ages.

Antiphony will be performed eight times at the Peabody School, 70 Rindge Avenue, Cambridge MA (North Cambridge, between Porter Square and Arlington), but we're in only 4 of the shows. The full
performance list is:

1. Saturday, March 16 at 3:00pm
2. Saturday, March 16 at 7:00pm
3. Sunday, March 17 at 1:00pm
4. Sunday, March 17 at 5:00pm
5. Saturday, March 23 at 3:00pm
6. Saturday, March 23 at 7:00pm
7. Sunday, March 24 at 1:00pm
8. Sunday, March 24 at 5:00pm

The cast of more than 160 chorus members and soloists are drawn from many Greater Boston communities and range in age from 7 to grandparents, often with several members of the same family appearing on stage together. The cast is divided into two casts, both excellent, each performing in some of the shows. My daughter and I are on stage in shows 2,4,5,and 7 as hard-working members of the worker ant chorus. You may know other people in the cast too - you can find information here on which cast members perform in which shows.

Contributing to this production are David Bass (music director), David Cash (stage direction), Rachel Zimmerman (choreography), and Kathy Lindsay (costumes). The original set design is by Peter Watson of Peter Watson Stage Design and has been adapted by Mark Jaquith, Carla Procaskey, and Kathy Lindsay. The lighting design is by David Silber. The show is produced by Carla Procaskey and Sue Hall.

Admission at the door is free. NCFO welcomes donations and suggests $5.00 for children, $10.00 for adults. But, to make sure you get in, you may PURCHASE TICKETS in advance, also $5.00 for children, $10.00 for adults, plus a small service fee (several shows sold out last year). Seating is general admission.

Snacks will be available for purchase at intermission; in addition, sandwiches will be available at the Sunday 5:00pm shows only. T-shirts, CDs and DVDs will also be available for purchase at
intermission as will Family Opera "grams" to send congratulations to all of your friends in the cast and crew.

Come early to make sure you get a good seat! For more information about NCFO, visit www.FamilyOpera.org. You can also like us on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/NorthCambridgeFamilyOpera.

Hope to see you at the show!

It's a fun show! I saw it the last time NCFO did it. The tunes will be going through your head for days afterward.

I wonder if I know you. I was in "Flying High" and "Springtime for Haman" 2010.
