Apologies for not being specifically Davis... but it's not too far.

Does anyone know the status of the round house on Atherton St.? Supposedly, a local contractor had bought it in 2007 with plans to restore it, but it's still looking kind of sad.

It's been a while since we've done a Somerville site for Historic Walking Tours, so I thought we'de visit there tomorrow. There's actually a lot of info on it, online, but I just got to wondering about its current state. Thanks!

Unfortunately I have no answer to your question. Ask Brandon Wilson or Kristi Chase at the Somerville Historic Preservation Commission. (Both of them work at least part-time in City Hall.) They may have more information. I know they've been concerned about the state of that house for many years.

(by the way, can you tell us more about the "Historic Walking Tours" organization that you are involved with? Can you link to their schedule of upcoming events?)

Re: "Shame that such a great structure has fallen into such blechh"

The new owner (new = ~4 yrs i think) has been at work restoring it the past few years. I've run into him working on it now and then (in warmer seasons). Although the exterior still needs work, concentration had been on restoring the interior first. Quite a bit of work had to be done, due to effects of long abandonment. It will be a private residence.

I sure hope there will be an open house house one day when it is finished!

Not sure I get it... The exterior looks very degraded to me. What is the point of fixing the interior up if there is the possibility of water leaks from an old roof etc?

She can be pretty busy at times, but she's very friendly and civic-minded. Give her (or Kristi) another try.

Amie Hayes is also working part-time for the Somerville Historic Preservation Commission. If you don't hear back from either Brandon or Kristi, try Amie.
