House Swap?
Apr. 12th, 2013 10:20 amThis may be a long shot, but my California-based brother and his partner are planning an extended visit to the east coast this summer, including several weeks here in the Boston area! Rather than crowd our smallish apartment* while their place in the Santa Cruz Mountains sits empty, they asked me to check and see if anyone nearby might be interested in a house swap!
His place is a perfect vacation spot, easy walking distance from hiking trails and a winery, and a short drive to Santa Cruz.
Their dates are fairly flexible, but they’re thinking the swap would extend from around June 15 through July 22, though they would be willing to go as late as August 1.
The house is a furnished 2br/1ba with a fenced in yard for pets. Laundry is in house and shared with upstairs neighbors. The terraced yard features a covered porch, as well as a sunny deck. There is a large plum tree that will be in season during the rental period.
The house is in the San Lorenzo Valley of the Santa Cruz Mountains and is walkable from the town of Felton, offering restaurants, live music, shopping, weekly farmer's market and more. Hallcrest Winery is also easily walkable out of the neighborhood and they offer tastings on their deck with a great mountain view (perfect for picnics). Also available within the neighborhood is Henry Cowell State Park - Fall Creek Unit, which has many miles of creekside and mountain hiking in redwood forest with many beautiful small waterfalls. The larger Henry Cowell State Park and its famous old-growth redwood grove is a 25 minute walk or short drive and there are beautiful swimming holes along the San Lorenzo river. Also in Felton is the Roaring Camp Railroads which is a popular attraction particularly for children, offering trips through the redwoods and down to the Beach boardwalk.
Santa Cruz is 6 miles away (10 min drive) and offers beaches, restaurants, nightlife, shopping, surfing, the boardwalk amusement park with its free summer concert series, museums and much more. The opportunities for outdoor recreation in the immediate area are really plentiful, in the mountains locally or along the undeveloped coast. The location is great for daytrips up to San Francisco and the greater Bay Area, as well as the Monterey Peninsula and Big Sur coastline.
Comment or PM if you’re interested and I’ll put you in touch with my brother for more information!
*My husband and I are expecting our first child in late June/early July! This is 1) why they’re visiting and 2) why it might not be the best time for them to stay with us!
