In the wake of Cameras Inc's departure, has anyone found a good alternative? I'm looking for a local developer where you can upload/order prints online, that isn't CVS, Walgreens, etc.

Calumet next to the Cambridgeside Galleria just started doing prints: http://printmix2.calumetprints.com/bponet/main.aspx

I got one done there and it was fast and beautiful.

I haven't used them in a while, but Dorian Color in Arlington is great.

Are you sure that link is correct? It is failing for me immediately with a mysterious 'Server Error' .

(I assume it's supposed to be for Hunt's Photo in Melrose, who have a great local reputation and could well become the last photo store standing ...)

Well, that's a cut-n-paste from Chrome, but it seems to work from IE. I suspect if you are on a odd browser or phone it might not work. The real URL is http://www.huntsphotoandvideo.com

I was using Chrome. The link seems intermittenly broken, not in any consistent way that I can understand.

maybe they're old-school -- don't keep their server running 24/7... remember when?

What's wrong with CVS? They're right across the street from where the old camera store used to be.

Their prints are pretty awful. Among other things, they do color correction on the photos, and if your photos have already been color corrected (by you or a professional photographer), they will come out looking all wrong.

Oof. A good reason to do your own developing. I gave up on analog photography years ago though, after losing an entire roll of astronomical photos in a darkroom snafu.

You could also just have them do negatives and get a negative scanner, so you could do your own prints without a darkroom.

Good online printing service

Elco color is good, I've used them for several years. Their prints are fairly cheap and decent quality, and they can color correct them for you. Their poster special is great, and you can pretty reliably talk to a human if you need customer service, and they're pretty friendly.
Good luck!
