according to an e-mail I just got from Ward 6 Alderman Rebekah Gewirtz. So there is no need to attend tonight's Licensing Commission hearing unless you want to support or oppose one of the other applicants (such as Aguacate Verde).

World of Nonalcoholic Beer isn't quite as catchy

I'll be there for Aguacate Verde and you can sign their petition at their 13 Elm Street location.

Please tell me they are looking to expand rather than move!

Well, I'm sure Alderman Gewirtz will oppose it, as we don't need another drinking hole in the square, and we already have places that serve alcohol.

do you know if the menu changed at all with the name change? as Tacos Lupita I loved their quesadillas.

I know, that's where I first discovered them years ago (when I used to work up that way) and I was so excited to see the one down here. I think they were owned by a pair of sisters, and maybe the separated the business? I remember hearing that a while ago, but can't recall for sure.

The food got worse when they switched over to the new place, but the menu mostly stayed the same. I think this happened over 2 years ago. I was disappointed after 2 tries and never went back. I used to love Tacos Lupita. Even the red sauce wasn't the same.

yeah, i remember going by a few years (?) ago and ordering one from the somerville location, and thinking it didn't taste the same anymore. I was hoping it was a one time fluke, but seems more likely a change of menu/recipes. bummer.

Similar menu items, but not the same recipes/flavors at all. Not the same bread for the tortas. Not the same al pastor for the tortas. Other things with avocados and vegetables that are new.

But Alderman Gewirtz is there to save us from ourselves and our choices! Hooray for NIMBY!

And pretty much why I decided to buy a house *not* in Somerville and not regretting it :)

There must be some nice whine bars there...

Yup, it's the same reason I've decided that when I start a business it's not going to be in Somerville. :)

Ron,

You're right. They are just looking for a license.

No, Aguacate Verde did not get a license. All special alcohol and farmer winery licenses were granted. Yoshi's received the one wine and malt license. The transfer to 14 McGrath Highway was approved (it was taken out of order on the agenda). I left before the others were voted on.

Hi Ron,

I don't recall exact words, but in summary...there are numerous places throughout Somerville that serve similar cuisine and that the City didn't see this as the type of place that would warrant an all forms license.

If they want to sell alcohol, I hope they start salting the food*. This will both taste better and encourage drinking.

*fine, salting it more

Do you know what happened? Not enough local support?
