Dentist recommended I get an impacted wisdom tooth extracted; anyone have oral surgeons in the area they have confidence in? Especially thought not necessarily ones who take Commonwealth Care? KoolSmiles in Porter is one, but yelp had 3 out of 4 reviews as terrible, if they're even still open. Other DSLJ tags or review websites welcome too.

Tagging 'dentist'. I don't know if any old posts with that tag are helpful, but take a look.

First Dental in Medford seems to get rave reviews. I am about to transfer my own dental appointments there.

Well, the oral surgeon I went to a few years ago is the whole way out in Framingham, but one thing she recommended to me in my pre-surgery consult was to take bromelain for 6 weeks prior to the surgery to reduce swelling. Let me tell you, it worked - I had all 4 removed and had zero swelling. She said to go with the chewables, so I did, not sure if that makes a difference or not, but I'm serious when I say I had zero swelling.

i got my wisdom teeth out at commonwealth oromaxillofacial surgeons ("comsa") on mass. ave in somerville. i don't have a lot of experience with such things, but they seemed competent and were willing to see me in a hurry when i got chili seeds stuck in one of the incisions while it was healing.

My husband and I got ours taken out there too. Mine were a piece of cake, but he was a very difficult case, and COMSA did an excellent job with a tough situation. (Oh, and that's actually Cambridge. They have an office in Arlington too.)

I also had a good experience with four teeth extracted at COMSA. Here's their website: http://www.comsa.tv/

I'm not sure about what insurance they take, but call the Restorative Dental Group in Cambridge (they're at Concord and Huron). I've been going there since 2006 and love the practice, and I'm pretty sure they do oral surgery in addition to regular old dental work.

Kool Smiles is, in fact and alas, closed. I would have recommended them otherwise.

I've been a happy patient of Gentle Dental in Porter for close to 20 years.

I went to this oral surgeon because I lived nearby, and I thought it was a pretty great experience considering how wussy and scared I was. I was back to work after four days (a little swollen, but not too shabby) with minimal pain.
