My husband ([livejournal.com profile] squirrelitude) and I are thinking about having children sometime in the next couple years and are hoping to find a cooperative living situation
that would be welcoming of a new baby. We're trying to either find an existing coop with openings or joining with like-minded folks to find a place. We aren't particular about renting versus owning.

If you know of any opportunities that would be appropriate, or if you'd be interested in working with us to form a coop (or know someone who would be a good fit), please private message us!

About us:
We are tree-huggers and tree-climbers. We primarily get around by bicycle and hope to make do without a car for as long as possible. We're enthusiastic about composting and local food production. We're mostly vegetarian (though we occasionally eat bison). We're queer-friendly and have been polyamorous in the past. We love talking about big ideas, enjoy reading aloud to each other (mostly science fiction), and are really big on open communication with the people in our lives. We're non-smokers who can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke.

My husband is a computer programmer who likes photographing insects, running barefoot (or in his vibrams), and is very enthusiastic about open source, DIY, and is an avid gardener. When he's not browsing the internet he spends most of his time at home working on various programming or hands-on projects.

I am a postdoctoral researcher who does ecological computer simulations at the University of New Hampshire. My interests include martial arts and tango (though I haven't had much time for either lately), yoga, developing my blog, and aerial silks.

About our ideal living situation:
We're looking for a community-oriented household with like-minded people who would be welcoming of a new baby if we end up having children. We are open to living with singles or couples with or without children.

The space *must* be smoke-free. We have a strong preference against television in common space.

My husband would love to live in a place that has chickens and would be happy to help take care of them.

I currently hosts two monthly gatherings that I'd love to continue holding: Reading Night (where people take turns reading short pieces aloud), and Big Ideas gatherings (dinners or brunches devoted to unstructured discussion of topics like epistemology, politics, the human condition, etc.).

We've really enjoyed living in the Davis Square area, but are open to other areas as long as we can get to both Davis Square and downtown Boston by bicycle. Living within a mile of the Red Line is ideal.

Someone emailed the Somerville Moms list that there was an opening at the Cambridge Co-Ho on Richdale. I don't know if that's in your price range, though.

Latest news on that opening is that it no longer exists.

Unfortunately, I don't know of co-op opportunities. However I would love to know more about your reading and Big Ideas nights if you still host them.
