two months ago, my mom called me with news about a MYSTERIOUS visitor to her house, in a large black trench coat, blond hair, asking all sorts of questions about me, my whereabouts, et cetera. this haunted me for months afterwards.

SKIP FORWARD TO LAST WEEK, and the news of ron newman being sued by jon monsarrat. the idea struck me; i sent images of jon mon to my mom, and LO AND BEHOLD, it was none other than JON MON who had visited my mom, looking for me.

i'm not exactly sure how he found my address, although it was probably from unprotected whois information on the now defunct texarrakis.

it took me a while to decide whether or not i would share this story publicly, but i figure it is possible it may be helpful to any sort of court case situation. i will say this though; i do not feel as comfortable walking the streets knowing that there is a JONMON out there looking to find me.

WELL THEN. if you come anywhere near me, my friends, or my family again, johnny, i am going to get a proper restraining order.

There is a photograph of Johnny Monserrat on his web page. (http://www.johnny-monsarrat.com/) I hope nobody else gets/has gotten surprise visits like the one described by the submitter.

If this -- or any other previously unknown individual! -- shows up at your doorstep, and starts asking personal questions, you do not have to answer them. Use common sense, and alert authorities if subjected to any form of harassment.

I'm curious what the questions were.

I love the idiotic bragging on the site:

"In 1994, there was no Web.... and America Online was brand new, cutting edge "

Sir Tim Berners Lee would probably disagree with that, since he released his first browser to comp.sources in 1991. Mosaic was out by the very beginning of 1993.

AOL existed in the 1980's...

"and now we wanted to create the world's largest game.. impossible. Except that we did it"

What a laughable fool.

Also, he thinks "absurb" is a real word.

Assuming that the plaintiff and the owner of Turbine are the same person..... This is a photo from April. He's changed a bit. https://twitter.com/uribejp/status/321669693104615424/photo/1

Jonmon was one of the founders of Turbine, but he hasn't worked there for a very long time. I believe in the initial 2010 thread, a Turbine employee posted a comment saying "Ugh, please don't connect us with this."

He stopped by our house several weeks ago on a Sunday morning asking for my husband, but didn't want me to wake him up and disappeared by the time I'd called upstairs. This explains a lot!

I love that the "pest control" tag is happening!

Jesus wept, what a putz someone would have to be to carry on in this manner, whoever that unknown person may have been. "I'm telling your mum!" is just a fantastic way for adults to address interpersonal conflicts.

Yeah but eventually we need to return that tag to its original purpose. Perhaps we could file the JonMon stuff under 'putz control' instead.

Honestly, it seems to me that in a case alleging a conspiracy to defame and harass the gentleman in question, the LAST thing we want to do is justify his paranoia by getting Anonymous to actually harass him.

I wouldn't be surprised if they descended upon him anyway, but I don't want to give the appearance of actually launching any kind of offensive against him.

THISTHISTHISTHISTHIS. Any actual harassment would only help him claim victimhood.

omfGGG. I haven't been reading this LJ since I left Boston, a friend pointed me to this, but like, a week and a half before I left, which was about mid-March, this . . . guy shows up one evening, asking for me. I didn't recognize him then, but I recognize the picture on JonMon's page. All he did was ask if I was [my name] and said he was "verifying an address." He wouldn't tell me who he was, he just walked off.

I have NO IDEA why he'd care about me, at all, but long black trench coat, blond hair, the description sure fits.

ETA: My housemate called the police after this happened, thinking it was some sort of scam, but the officer he spoke with said he'd "never heard of anything like it" in all his years, or words to that effect.

Jumpin' Jesus on a pogo stick, now he's stalking an entire community.

All of these instances need to be compiled and sent to Ron's legal defense team. I don't know if he's got one set up yet, but the fact that the guy crying "Oh poor little me, these nasty people are harassing me" can be visibly identified as the man stalking Internet users by addresses he did a bit of legwork to acquire is super freaking important.

Strongly agreed. It may also, at this point, be worth notifying the police.

Were either [livejournal.com profile] genesayssitdown or [livejournal.com profile] hrafn sent letters afterward? If Monsarrat was not even verifying their addresses for the purposes of sending a confidential settlement offer, the creepiness factor has just spiked by another order.

(If they did receive letters: that's still not all right. A move from online to physical stalking is an escalation. And should be documented somewhere more legally binding than the internet.)

Of all the things that have happened with this case, this has to be the creepiest. Your poor mom! This makes me angrier than him going directly for any of us John and Jane Does. Approaching family is beyond the pale.
