Yup, I realize this might be a long shot, but other long shots have brought surprisingly good results here...tia.

Depends on definition of 'near'; this is in Winchester.

I've never seen it for sale anywhere, except maybe sometimes at Whole Foods during the holiday season. It's actually super easy to make. For example:

Are you looking for soft, cakey gingerbread or gingerbread-man cookies? If the former, I can highly recommend the recipe in Joy of Cooking, if that helps. I add fresh ginger root (grated or juiced) and sometimes candied ginger.

mmmmm, now I want gingerbread.

Whole Foods often has gingerbread in their "by the pound" bakery section (where the cornbread is). Also, Petsi's sells gingerbread in little rounds (it really is gingerbread, just they find it easier to make in muffin tins). Hi-Rise sometimes has it as well.

Dancing Deer also makes one - maybe if you called them, they could tell you whether any local shops stock it.

Which store did you find it at?

IIRC Hi-Rise is sometimes at the farmers market? Certainly some tasty bakery types have been. Might be worth wandering through there. Could hardly be closer to the Square, at least :)

Unfortunately, Hi-Rise is no longer at the Davis Square farmers' market. I miss them and their challah.

I'm glad you found a source-- otherwise I was going to offer to make you some, but the handoff would have involved logistics.

Merry Christmas, everybody!

The Hi Rise bakery has a stand at the Central Square Farmers Market on Monday afternoons. I was just there last Monday. They do often have gingerbread and I think they may have had it this last time.

It's soooo good with whipped cream.
