can anyone pass along info on local opportunities for playing ice hockey?
bonus if they will deal gracefully with a nearly 40 year old woman with zero previous experience.

No experience playing hockey is one thing but can you skate? I would recommend a learn to skate program first. If you are reasonable at skating but know nothing about hockey then there are hockey schools located everywhere around here. I just googled this one with locations all around eastern mass,

Hockeytown in Saugus, hands down. The rink is a little run down, but they run a program two nites a week as well as offer a beginner skills clinic on Saturdays. They may take the summer off on the skills portion, but they do go year round for the games. Its a wide range of skill level but its a fun welcoming group (which I play in so ask questions away). Also always open to just having someone come watch and take a look at the skill level. We have plenty of players who can skate but just don't know the game yet.
