HP Amazon Package Theft

I'm just curious if anyone else had their Amazon package stollen from their porch on Saturday. I'd pre-ordered Potter for the guaranteed Saturday delivery, but it wasn't there when I got home. Checking today with Amazon, UPS, and the Somerville post office, it was delivered along with the other hundreds in the neighborhood. But someone beat me to my porch.

I hope nobody else lost theirs to the thief...

This is why I have PO Box. I do not trust the Somerville Post Office to deliver my mail to my address with any degree of accuracy at all. The fact that my mailbox is routinely stuffed with mail for my downstairs neighbour or the people on the next block only reinforces this.

I've considered doing that. I haven't had many problems before this, but Jesus. I'm wondering though; do you get 24-hour access to the PO boxes? I work in Copley and am not in Davis during business hours.

You used to...my PO Box is at South Station...it used to be open 24/7 but is now open til Midnight M-F and 7pm Sat-Sun...which is fine for me. That was why I got it there, originally...I get my mail at lunch during the week.

I think (is what I am saying) that it depends on the post office; you could get one at Copley.

Davis PO

There's no 24 hour access to the Davis PO box. I've had a box there for almost a decade and the only time I can get there is Saturday [before they close at 1 p.m.].

I believe the UPS Store has 24 hour access, but box rates are much more expensive.

Hell, late last week we got mail for 1 Davis Square. We live at 19 Hawthorne St.

Figure that one out.

I can only guess that our mail carrier hates us because we routinely have mail from Tempurpedic and such addressed to Assface Shithead.

Who steals children's books off porches? It's worth a children's book itself, with movie options (are you listening, Tim Burton?) I'm actually laughing about it now (though I'd rather be reading a certain book).

I was thinking about it tonight, and it's the easiest rip imaginable. Anyone who knew Saturday 7/16/05 was Potter Delivery Day could have gone a'gathering the packages from the porches, street to street, from people like me who are too trusting of this hood, and sold the books on the street for $10 or something. I order CDs and books from Amazon all the time, and they've always been there waiting on the porch unstollen like this was Mayberry or Japan.

Glad mine was the only one so far.

Oh, and FYI, since you had delivery problems you're probably also eligible for the refund, since the pre-orders were all SUPPOSED to be with UPS and they shunted it off onto USPS at the last minute.

Nope, I didn't, but I have had more than one thing taken from my front porch (in Union Square) - the latest being a pair of swim shoes for my son. UPS had to pay for them, since the driver was supposed to get a signature and didn't.
