This week's Dig has a short article titled The Somerville Files: Update, saying "Since DigBoston started publishing our series on power and influence in the city of about 80,000, officials have announced plans for several municipal improvements, some of which address problems that were raised in these very pages."

This isn't the promised (and final) Part 4; that will come out next week. "Be sure to stay tuned for next week, as we look at the legacy of Curtatone, and the current political climate as he openly considers running for the state’s highest office."

(Earlier discussions: Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3)

Yeah, because that's how bureaucracies work.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the Dig's running the series, but the one has nothing whatsoever to do with the other.

That first claim is crap. *Weeks* ago, at the Ward 4 Resistat meeting, Mayor Joe said that Odysseo would be hiring locally. That is not a new development and certainly not due to the Dig's reporting.

I guess it could be purposefully ambiguous, but that sentence doesn't say that the changes are because of the articles, just that they happened since the series was published.

I am certain that was quite intentional.

Not to get more whiny than is par for the course here, but I should point out that Somerville's revitalization is being seen as a model for the rest of the nation. The city should not screw this up, or it will be harder to push similar urban infill in other cities here in Mass and elsewhere around the country. And the Dig really should not make mountains out of molehills, because the usual town meeting pests from here to San Francisco will be using this as fodder to keep the sprawly status quo.

Come on folks.... Politics as usual???? All of the positive reforms from this series was reactionary but not to the articles themselves. The authors did a diligent job with their "Freedom of Information Requests" and this spurred the reforms from our local leaders.

Is Assembly's most recent "jobs legacy" going to end in September when the "horse circus" leaves town??? A local hiring ordinance is not a short-term show/event.... perhaps the next "hiring promise" will be that all Christmas help be offered to Somerville folks at the new retail locations

No update on Beacon Street? Well here's one: They're going to miss the deadline for funding because DCI was incapable of getting a design approved. So enjoy the bumpy ride for another few years, everyone! Or you know - the city could just repave the friggen street like everyone's been asking to for years instead of burning a big pile of money on DCI's shoddy work.
