I eat eggs, and just recycle the cartons, but if any of you need them for, like, you know, eggs, I'd be happy to save them for you, this being a Chicken-Friendly Zone.
I've noticed that the chicken farmers at the farmers' market will happily accept your used cartons at the beginning of the summer, but in the fall they're less enthusiastic about that. :)
Generally chickens lay fewer eggs when there is less daylight. Some farmers artificially increase egg production with indoor lighting. In general, though, they need cartons more in the summer.
I got the feeling that there are a plethora of people like me who save their cartons all winter and bring them to the farmers' market in June, resulting in an oversupply for the farmers.
I also wonder whether they sell their winter eggs to small grocery stores, which perhaps require a stricter adherence to some policy concerning cartons (they must be new? they must have the correct farmer's information printed on them?)
