I'm tired of riding bikes that don't fit. I've gotten advice for fitting a bike myself, measuring myself in all sorts of ways, but I'd prefer to just have a professional do it. I'm not shopping for a $1000+ bike, though. My bike budget is going to be around $500.

Have you tried Ace Wheelworks?

Ace doesn't do fittings but Belmont Wheelworks does and they're really good at it. They were super patient and changed things it would not have occurred to me to change -- and I'm pretty good with a wrench.

I was fitted around 10 years ago at Belmont Wheel Works, they did a good job. I believe International Bicycle in Brighton also has a fitting bike.

I'd try Tyler at Paramount Bicycle in Ball Square --- he always did a great job for me, and he's good at giving you a realistic estimate of what you can get depending on your budget. When I went to him with a budget of around $500, he measured me, found a used frame that pretty much fit, and tweaked the build such that it was a good fit. It's no longer my primary bike, but I still ride it, and his wheelbuilding work is amazing.

I like Tyler but just enter with the right expectations. He can be gruff, opinionated and blunt, but he knows his stuff. If you're ok with working with a character who can be abrasive, then you'll be fine.

The guys at Park Bike on Somerville Ave near Central will practically not allow you to buy a bike that doesn't fit you.
They've been there for a couple of generations.
All of their bikes are used and reasonably priced.
They are closed on Wednesdays.
I've bought bikes for myself and for my son. They take fitting very seriously.

Not a fan of Wheelworks -- although the negative experience I had was long enough ago there's probably very little staffing overlap.

I have had maintenance done at JRA in Medford and been pleased, but haven't done any demo or fitting there.

The shops that sell used bikes are probably going to be able to sell you a lot more bike in that price range, with room to change a few bits to fit better.

These days I always recommend JRA Cycles as my go-to shop - they are just so friendly and attitude-free, plus they have plenty of bikes in your price range. So I would check with them.
