Anybody have a recommendation for a local photographer for maternity/newborn sessions? I loathe the usual draped/naked belly and propped, sweetie-pie baby shots, but I'm not photographer enough myself to have other ideas.
(I have mined the photo tag, but those entries appear to be a couple years old and some links appear to be defunct so I thought an update might be in order.)

1. Contrast and light. You can use this as a background with you and your infant, with the rays behind both of you (but with a flash to get you and your baby visible, too). It makes a cool effect, but you'd need to get the sun reasonably low on the horizon or find a hill to get this shot, and a good tree. Otherwise, you can also use the sun's glow (when it's bright out), instead.
2. There are a few techniques I like about this family photo (taken using a remote control without me behind the camera). I only took a few pictures, my wife didn't like her thighs showing, but oh well (we're not too picky). The first technique is using earth tones for colors. With it being autumn, you can add some red, orange, and yellows along with green and brown. The baby should have brighter colors so the focus goes there. It creates a nice, warm picture.
Another technique is to not look at the camera. Have the focus be of the infant.
Contrast, to me, is important. Solid lines work really well. The vertical brown lines of the porch fence and the blue and white horizontal lines of my wife's shirt. It adds depth to the picture without it overwhelming the picture.
