My daughter and I had a conversation with the artist as he was going down the bike path. The artist's name is Nathaniel Price. His website is: http://nathanielprice.net/ and has more photos as well as the following information about the chalk line:
"For this project I cast a massive cube of plaster (the same material as street chalk) that is the same volume as my body and weighed 246.4 lbs and dragged it from my studio through Somerville and Cambridge MA to Arlington Ma. In the process, I 'drew' a huge, continuous, chalk line while simultaneously wearing down the block into a sculpted form. For me, it is a piece full of resistence, friction, struggle and, possibly, beauty."
The chalk line started at his studio on Vernon Street. I haven't seen the other end of the line, but he told us that he was going to the prison in Concord, MA. I do not know why.
