Dreadlocks

Hey,

I'm looking to investigate getting my (white-person) hair backcombed and starting some dreads. My big question is: has anyone had the same thing done at a salon nearby? I'm thinking Judy Jetson would be the most likely place, but I've heard some icky things about that salon and am kind of torn about whether to try it. Would also take any advice about dreads in general... I'm harboring a hope that I can get them and still look professional (within the context of being a writer/Camberville resident) but am not totally sure whether some of the dreads I see that i like are real or extensions.

I've just used them for plain old white-chick haircut, but I have had great experiences with the folks at Judy Jetson.

My hairdresser works out of Judy Jetson, but that's really not the place to go to start locks.
What is your natural hair texture?
For professional-looking locks, I'd suggest googling sisterlocks and find a local provider.

There is a lady (weirdly enough) at the Supercuts in Twin City Plaza (near Lechmere) that does hair braiding. I wasn't specific about what kind I was asking for, and I wound up with white girl dreadlocks. She was fantastic, but I cannot remember her name for the life of me.

Out of curiosity, what bad did you hear about Judy Jetson? Has anyone else had negative experiences with them? I used to go to Hair Collage in Central but have recently moved to Porter and was hoping to find a place within walking distance to make my life easier, and had my eye on them since they look pretty funky and the prices don't seem too bad for around here either. Sorry to say though that I don't have any advice for you re: dreads.
