'8-1'?

Folks that ride out from Davis toward Bedford on the Minuteman:
The bike path has been closed between Mass Ave and Alewife since Monday. The signs read "Closed for construction 8-1" so I thought it was only closed for 8/01/05. But on Wednesday it was still closed, with the same sign posted, so I thought maybe they meant 8 am to 1pm for as long as the signs are up. But then, no, because I get out of work much later than 1pm and the path was still closed.
Anybody know how much longer it will be closed? Any idea what they mean by '8-1'? (It might very well be reopened, I will find out in about 5 minutes.) It's a real pain in the butt to get around the path via Rindge Ave--that street may have some of the worst potholes in the area, the drivers aren't used to cyclists on the street, and there really isn't enough shoulder to ride on.

plus some punk ass kids on the sidewalk often randomly shout to distract cyclists. i'm disappointed that the city decided the solution is to send people off the path and onto a not exactly safe street.

Yesterday they decided that leaping in front of an oncoming bicyclist was great fun! I had barely enough time to swerve and yell "Hey!"

wow. that bites the big one. same thing happened to me once, luckily i was on the bike path (near the part that's closed right now) and i said "little fucker" to the punk kid and he yelled "fuck youuuuu!" like it was my fault.
it really has me wondering what kind of homes they're living in and why these people are allowed to breed.

there's parking lot at the end of harvey? weird, i never noticed.

dunno, never tried it. the detour signs guide you down clifton toward rindge. i'd imagine if that parking lot belongs to somebody, they wouldn't want so much foot traffic/bike traffic. if you happen to try it out, though, let us know here. :)
